I’ve recently said, I wish I was a science geek back in my younger years.
I would have pursued a career in it.
I know, they say it’s never too late, but I guess I’m looking ahead and seeing retirement on the horizon, which honestly sounds pretty appealing too. 😂
My point in all of that is that I’ve been seeing online that over the next couple of nights, the sky is putting on a show.
The Perseid meteor shower is making its way toward its peak, and if you know me at all, I’ll be looking up in amazement waiting to see streaks of light crossing a dark August sky.
And as if that weren’t enough, six planets are also lining up across the sky this week.
There’s something about that that feels almost too fitting. Everything aligning, coming together, finding its place; even if we can’t always see how it’s happening.
I thought that belonged here.
Yes, I love me a metaphor. ❤️
We all spend so much of our lives waiting for things to align whether its relationships, jobs, circumstances, etc. I’ve told myself more than once if everything falls into place, then I will feel peaceful.
But life doesn’t really work that way.
Alignment doesn’t necessarily mean that everything around us suddenly falls into place.
Maybe it means that we finally fall into place within ourselves.
So…stop saying yes when every part of you wants to say no and remember, keeping everyone else comfortable comes at the expense of our own comfort.
I’ve accepted that I cannot control how someone sees me, what they say about me, or whether they understand the choices I make.
It took me a long time to get there, but I know now that I don’t need permission anymore.
I’m grateful to be at a point in my life where I no longer believe that being a good person means constantly being understanding, accommodating, keeping the peace, or swallowing the hurt.
I still believe in kindness, compassion and that people deserve grace.
However, I’ve learned that there is a difference between being kind and abandoning yourself.
There is a difference between understanding someone’s behavior and continuing to accept it or that fine line of forgiveness and pretending something didn’t hurt.
That has been what alignment means to me.
Everything outside of my control doesn’t have to suddenly become perfect.
It has been a collection of little moments where my life has started to match the truth I’ve been carrying inside for a very long time.
So yeah, you’re going to catch me looking up at the stars this week.
Because the universe doesn’t seem to be in a hurry, it has its own timing.
There’s something comforting about that.
There’s something else I’ve noticed over the past three years. The skies seem prettier since my dad passed. Coincidence maybe, or perhaps I’m just looking up more.
I notice the sunsets, the moon, the stars and the colours in the sky that I might have once walked right past without giving them much thought.
I can’t help but think that maybe Dad has something to do with that.
Losing someone changes the way you look at the world, when someone you love is no longer here, you start noticing the things above you a little more.
I’m aware of how kooky that probably sounds. 😂 But honestly, I kind of like believing he has something to do with it.
Maybe that’s not logical. Maybe it doesn’t need to be.
Maybe when you lose someone you love, you become a little more open to the things you can’t explain.
And if looking up at the sky makes me feel a little closer to him, I’m okay with that.
Every once in a while, from our little corner of the world, we get a glimpse of how beautifully things can come together without us forcing them.
